Meet your photographer:

Micaela Dawkins.

Black and white photo of a curly-haired woman posing with a bay horse on a rural path.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to the moments that feel a little too fleeting—the quiet ones, the genuine ones, and the ones you wish you could hold onto just a little longer.

Horses have been a meaningful part of my life for more than 22 years, and that experience has given me a deep understanding and appreciation for the connection between horse and human. I know the feeling of spending countless hours building trust, learning each other, and sharing a bond that can be difficult to put into words. It’s often found in the smallest moments: a soft nuzzle, a hand resting on a familiar neck, the look between horse and rider, or the quiet companionship of simply being together.

That love of connection naturally extends to the people I photograph.

As a mother, I know firsthand how quickly childhood passes. The tiny hands, sleepy cuddles, missing teeth, messy hair, and personalities that seem to change overnight. There are so many moments we think we’ll always remember, only to realize later just how quickly they became a part of the past. That is one of the reasons photography means so much to me. I want to preserve those everyday pieces of life—the ones that may seem ordinary now, but become priceless with time.

I’m an outdoors and natural-light photographer, and I’m happiest when I can photograph people in a setting that feels natural to them. My style is lightly posed and gently guided rather than overly structured. I want you to feel comfortable enough to interact, laugh, love on your people, and simply be yourselves. I’ll step in when needed, but I’m always watching for the moments that happen in between.

My editing style is warm and timeless while remaining true to color. I want your photographs to feel beautiful without feeling overly processed—to look like your family, your horse, and your life as you remember them. Whether I’m photographing a horse and rider, a growing family, a newborn, or an ordinary afternoon together, my goal is always the same: to capture the connection that makes the moment meaningful. Because photographs become more valuable as the years pass. And someday, when these moments have changed, I want you to be able to look back and remember not only what it looked like, but how it felt to be there.
